Parental Guidance

Safety is our top priority! This course involves the use of sharp scissors, sewing machines, and hot irons.

Sewing machine safety will be discussed at during the first class and reviewed each week.

Weekly Fabric Needs

  • Week 1: 1 yard of 100% cotton or cotton blend (pre-washed) with matching thread
  • Week 2: ½ yard 100% cotton flannel or quilting cotton
    Filling: Uncooked rice, flaxseed, or cherry pits (about 4–6 cups for heating pad, 1–2 cups for hand warmers) with matching thread
  • Week 3: Cotton quilting fabric (scraps work!)
    Batting: Cotton or insulated batting (Insul-Bright recommended for hot pads) with matching thread
  • Week 4: ½ yard cotton or lightweight canvas
    Cording/Ribbon: 2–3 yards for drawstring with matching thread
  • Week 5: Variety of cotton fabric scraps (nine 6"x6" squares recommended)
    Backing fabric: ½ yard cotton
    Pillow form: 14"x14" or 16"x16" (depending on design) or bag of pillow stuffing
    with matching thread
